Summary
SACRAMENTO: The Heart of California was an enticement offered by the Sacramento Chamber of Commerce in 1914 to encourage tourism and settlement in the Sacramento Valley. This entrepreneur is ringed by his product as he confidently puts in a cameo appearance literally up to his waist in vulcanized rubber. Even in the primitive days of auto travel before World War I dislodged thousands of young men from the nooks and crannies of America and gave them a taste of travel and wanderlust accessories like this were an absolute necessity to deal with roads not yet surfaced for automobiles. The purveyor of hand-made Kelly-Springfield tires was G.C. Hickingbotham, 1233 J Street in Sacramento.
