Holt Manufacturing Co. of Stockton provided this photo for the first issue of California Magazine in 1915. Entitled "Breaking the Delta with Caterpillar tractor," this color shot emphasizes the changes in agriculture that came with gasoline-powered engines and more adaptable machines and implements. Prose praising the industry from the pages of that magazine includes the following: "...no man with red blood in his veins would be happy in a land where there was nothing to do but eat and sleep...California farming is carried on under excellent conditions with a minimum of difficulties, under ordinary circumstances and a maximum of production."
