Lovely, ripe Bartlett pears lounge luxuriously beneath a page of prose extolling their charms. A year before this issue of California Magazine was published in 1915 it was estimated that there were over 2,000,000 pear trees in California, almost ten times the amount reported in 1859. A report from 1913 placed the total production in the state at 53,483 tons.
