A "Paul Bunyan Prosperity Special" of 171 cars loaded with lumber from the Red River Lumber Company, posed on the outskirts of Westwood, was put together in conjunction with the opening of the WP's "Inland Gateway" on November 10, 1931. Motive power was provided by WP steam locomotive No. 334, now on display at the Western Railway Museum, and two other steam locomotives. The "Inland Gateway," also known as the "Northern California Extension," refers to the joint effort of WP and the Great Northern to create a route between Northern California to Southern Oregon.
