A delicately lettered (except for POTATOES) business card advertises one of local tycoon W. H. Wood's early efforts. Wood and his partner William A. Curtis were first linked in the Sacramento City Directory for 1882, and by the 1885 edition Wood was president and Curtis secretary of Wood, Gray & Co., later changed to Wood-Curtis, Co. In the Sacramento City Directory of 1885 the two were located at 117-125 J Street, and the 1925 listing shows the same company at the same location, though the partners were no longer a part of the enterprise.
