Packing sheds along the Sacramento River at Ryde, California, circa 1920 look tidy and well tended during this rare period of inactivity. Fruits and vegetables constituted the majority of items packed for shipping by river, rail, or road, but if it grew in abundance in the area any crop might go through the packing sheds. Ryde, and especially the Ryde Hotel, figure largely in local lore about the "Roaring Twenties" and Prohibition in the Sacramento Valley.
